What should I expect in a treatment?

Breast massage is a 30 minute treatment; your RMT will discuss your health history pertaining to breast and chest issues and design a treatment to address your needs. Your RMT will work on your rib cage, breast bone, fascia and muscles surrounding and under the breast tissue, then address breast tissue, mammary glands and the structures that support the breast on the chest wall. Your chest will be covered by a towel; with your consent one breast is uncovered and treated at a time. Warm towels are applied at the end to encourage blood flow and relaxation.

Treatment may be covered under your extended health care plan and can be an add on to a longer treatment.

15% of treatments in October will be donated to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation to purchase a new film digitizer

i am so happy and proud to introduce our new clinic name, starting february 1st 2010. since john douglas chiropractic and dr. jane reside naturopath and all of the rest of us are joining together to create this new clinic, we decided a new name, encompassing all of us needed to be a part of our move.

well, only one week until the baby fair! it's so exciting. dr. maja and i got together this week to finalize the details, get our supplies and go over the talk. we'll be on the main stage on saturday at 4:00 talking about the benefits of chiropractic and massage during pregnancy.

come by our booth #53. we'll be offering 15 min sampler massage for $20, answering questions and have a draw to win a free 1 hour massage with me.

getting ready

i'm in the process of making signs for the baby fair. my dad is super skilled, talented and knowledgeable and is thankfully helping me over the phone and internet to get everything together. i've cut the wood, begun to sand and varnish the smaller pieces. next comes the stain for the larger sign.

alley kat signs is making the lettering for us. they are amazing. we used them last year, and for our sandwich board at market square. thanks alley kat!

i'll post some pics of the process soon.

a new article came out today in the canadian press regarding canada acquiring unadjuvinated vaccine for the h1n1 virus for pregnant women. these vaccines appear to be the same type of vaccines that canada uses already with other vaccines but this time they are purchasing adjuvinated ones because it allows them to spread their amount further in the population. the unadjuvnated vaccine is potentially no different for pregnancy with the same risks and concerns as other vaccines. make sure you have all the information and feel informed before making your decision.

cbc posted a great news article on midwives and home births. it's really exciting to see and hear about research being done and the stigma being reduced about midwifery. mostly i love to see that options are being recognized for women and their choices of pregnancy and birth.

well, it's just one month away from the baby fair, so i've got to get moving. creating some signage, getting the lighting right and working on how to create that warm feeling that our clinic has, in our little booth.

i discovered this research article today, on the benefits of pregnancy massage and prenatal depression.

prenatal depression is a hard place to be, especially when it seems like all the other pregnant women out there are so happy, and you're not feeling that way. taking the time to be cared for, to relax, and receiving massage can help cope with the place you are in.

every woman's pregnancy is a different, unique experience. take some time to get some care so you can experience you pregnancy surrounded by warmpth, light and care.

i was just forwarded this article which i thought was really interesting. doctors are recommending that automatic c-sections for breech babies may not be as necessary as thought, and want to encourage the re-introduction of teaching and practicing safe vaginal breech deliveries.

there are other options in assisting a baby to turn and our own dr. maja edgar practices the webster technique. this technique helps to balance the pelvis, helping to create optimal room which in turn, allow more space for the baby to move and/or turn.

Pregnant women benefit from massage therapy

Twenty-six pregnant women were assigned to a massage therapy or a relaxation therapy group for 5 weeks. Only the massage therapy group reported reduced anxiety, improved mood, better sleep and less back pain by the last day of the study. In addition, urinary stress hormone levels decreased for the massage therapy group with fewer complications during labour and their infants had fewer postnatal complications.
